Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football and social service. Selmon is the son of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon. They brought him up on their farm in Eufala. He played second in football and was the third brother who played for Oklahoma. Three brothers all made All-American teams. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy was named the top offensive lineman in country by Outland, Lombardi and the Outland Awards. Through his three seasons as Oklahoma's starter, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and captured two championships. He was awarded a third scholarship in 1975. He was also named as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon received a degree in Education. Fourth-year service in college Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. Following college, he moved to Tampa where he played nine years with the Buccaneers played all-pro three times and started a business career. In 1988 he became an account representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of the most outstanding American young men. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs 256 pounds. He was a captain on his college team in the year 1975. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as an Associate Director of Sports. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994. He was also named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 handed out the Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma awarded it.
