Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the virtues of family football scholarship and volunteering for the community. First family he is the youngest of the nine children born to Lucious Selmon and Jessie. They grew up on a family farm near Eufala, Oklahoma. He played football with three of his brothers for Oklahoma. The three brothers all made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. For three seasons as a starter Oklahoma was 32-1-1 and won two national championships. A third scholarship saw him named as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon earned a diploma from the University of California at Berkeley. Fourth-year service in the university Lee Roy devoted ten hours each week on volunteer work. Following college, he relocated in Tampa and played nine seasons with the Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro three times. He then began his professional career. He began his career in 1988. worked as an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. This is why The Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as among the most prominent young men in the country. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 pounds during his time playing college football. The year 1975 was the first time he led the group. In 1993 he was appointed associate director of the University of South Florida. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Jr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
