Born on Jan. 19th, 1946, on the 19th of January 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn into a poverty-stricken family which would later have 12 children. Dolly Parton learned early to overcome the difficulties of her life by using her expansive and vivid imagination. Before she could compose or read the music she wrote herself, she created her own tunes. Within 8 years she had her very first guitar. When she was 11 years old she started singing on the local radio station in Knoxville, Tennessee. That same year she made her first recording on Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. She made a name for herself in the local scene while still at high school, yet she dreamed of performing on a bigger stage. Following her graduation in 1964 she moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde was her first album to be charted on Monument Records. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female vocalist to be a part of his syndicated show in the years prior to this. Parton was appointed in the year 1967 was signed to RCA Records by 1968, she joined the Grand Ole Opry. However she left Wagoner's show in 1974 as her solo albums like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene had begun charting their collaborative efforts.
