Dolly-Parton
Born on Jan. 19 1946 from Locust Ridge Tenn into a poor family that would eventually comprise 12 kids Dolly Parton learned early to escape the hardships of life with her vast and imaginative imagination. Her songs were written before she learned to read or write. In the year she turned 8, she got the first electric guitar. Then she began to sing at the Knoxville Tenn Radio Station. That same year she made her debut album on Gold Band Records an independent small label. Although she was in school, she had already made a name for herself in the local music scene. The goal for her was to be more widely known. When she was graduating in 1964, she moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. It was around this time that Porter Wagoner was looking for a new girl singer for his syndicated television show. Parton took the offer in 1967 and signed with RCA Records in 1968 and joined The Grand Ole Opry in 1969. In 1974, she quit the show because of the success of her singles like Joshua Coats of Many Colors or Jolene was way ahead of their joint release. The two split in 1974, Parton wrote the song I Will Always Love You for Wagoner and it made it to Number. The first time it made it to No. 1 was 1974.
